ANNOUNCEMENT: April 6, 2020 @ 4 p.m.
Dear BISD Community,
Earlier this afternoon, Governor Inslee announced that schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. Without restrictions like this, public health authorities have told us the rate of infection will overwhelm the healthcare system and endanger lives.
I fully support Governor Inslee’s decision, and it was made in the best interest for the health of our state. Still, this decision has a significant impact on our students and our community, and we should collectively acknowledge these challenges. To all the students who miss their friends and their teachers…To all the staff who miss their students and their colleagues…To all the families who miss the routine and structure that school provides…please know that BISD is with you. Now more than ever, it’s important to remember that BISD nurtures strong minds, strong hearts, strong community, and we will continue to do so through our continuous education model. We are in this together.

My Arizona grandchildren are on a different schedule that WA state students but both the 7th grader and 3rd grader are involved in their studies and have contact with their instructors daily. The 7th grader attends a public classical academy (Latin required first two years) in Gilbert, AZ and is on his computer from 8:30 to 1:30 and is required to wear his school uniform. He has never been happier and is maintaining his B+ - A average. The 3rd grader is responsible for daily physical activity, reading, math, science, etc. Her beloved principal is on Youtube with the daily announcements and positive reinforcement messages, often including his own children and dog. Both children are held accountable for not just attendance, taken by all teachers, but also to produce completed assignments which are then evaluated online. She loves and misses her teacher but knows she will see her and talk with her every weekday. Both children are thriving and actively involved in learning. Good luck with the implementation of your educational programs on Bainbridge. These are challenging times but we will come out stronger at the end.
