Poulsbohemian Armchair Poetry Readings

It’s time for another night of poetry in Poulsbo.

Come join us this Saturday, October 5th, at the Poulsbohemian coffee shop at 7:00 PM where this month’s three featured poets — Anne Kundtz, Sue Hylen, and Marty Steyer — will be reading their work.

Open mic will follow the featured poets, whose bios are below.

Sue Hylen
In 2001 Sue self-published Double Exposure, her chapbook of poems with black & white photographs she processed in her darkroom. Her poems have been published in Stone Country, Arnazella, Spillway, Exhibition, Ferry Tales, on the Seattle Metro Buses and most recently in Spindrift.

Now recently retired after 30 years as the Arts & Cultural Program Manager for the Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District, Sue Hylen has focused on finding her images through her pen and lens.

Sue is most grateful for Nancy Rekow’s Bainbridge Writers Workshop as well as John Willson’s Poetry Workshop with the Bainbridge Island Park District which she has been attending since her retirement. The guidance and support from each instructor and attending poets have truly made her muse come alive again.

At Centrum’s Port Townsend Writers Workshop Sue has studied with Carolyn Kizer in 1987 and Dana Levin in 2017. This summer at Centrum she attended the afternoon lectures and evening readings with mornings reserved for writing more poems at a private retreat.

On October 5th Sue will be reading poems she has recently written since her retirement.

Marty Steyer
Marty Steyer was born in Savannah, GA and has lived in many parts of the U.S. and also Germany. For the past 25 years he has called the Pacific Northwest home and refuses to budge—he loves it here. Marty has attended numerous writing conferences, including Bread Loaf, Tin House, and Sewanee, as well as writing workshops at Hugo House. Marty writes both free and formal verse. He won the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award in 2014. He is reputed to have a sense of humor.

Anne Kundtz
Anne Kundtz writes between bouts of teaching Sophomore English and Senior Creative Writing, before school in the wee hours of the morning, and before she sits in one of John Wilson’s occasional classes. Her preference is to write poetry, rather than to jump into the left hemisphere of publishing poetry, but she has been published in Poems for Las Vegas, Poetry Corners, and Ars Poetica, mostly because Nancy Rekow gently nudges her to get work in.
