I’ve been reading a lot of books on grief and to assuage my loss of my beloved husband, Pernell. A couple good books were Joan Didion’s, The Year of Magical Thinking, and Widowed, by Dr. Joyce Brothers. I have also delved a bit more into my meditation and and for support I’ve found good things from Pema Chodron, When things Fall Apart, and a tiny pocket book, Awakening Loving Kindness.

For inspiration I loved the words of Sue Monk Kidd, First Light. I also read Steven Levine’s Book, A Year to Live, and Alan D. Wolfe’s book, Understanding your Grief. Three books that sit beside my bed are Healing After Loss, by Martha Whitmore Hickman, Consolations The Solace, Nourishment, and Underlying Meaning of Everyday Words, by David Whyte, and Grief Dialogues, The Book, Stories on Love and Loss. Sixty -one authors (including Jenny Coates). And I pick up from time to time the writings of Elisabeth Kubler Ross. It has been a journey of comfort and awakening.
