“As our lives changed in March of 2020 due to COVID-19, I gathered people to meet online once a week to discuss our jewelry making projects. My goal was to provide a space for discussion and support of our creative activities and to avoid isolation. For one of our weekly assignments, I created a color wheel out of glass and ceramic pieces I have collected or been given. This arrangement of bits of color became a project I could do while sitting at a table at the end of my driveway. While making bezels to hold these bits of color, I would wave and chat with the people walking by. In isolation, we long to be together and share our thoughts. Making these necklaces provided connections with my neighbors as well as my fellow jewelry makers.
The glass and ceramic pieces come from many countries and found their way to my studio. Each person or their ancestors in this country, have found their way here as well. The parts of these necklaces go together to make a whole necklace as each person in this country live and work together creating our communities.”
