Erica Steiner is a Washington-based painter, ceramicist, sculptor and multimedia artist. Born and raised in rural Northern California, Steiner received her BA from Mills College in Oakland where she studied art with Hung Liu and Ron Nagle, and her MFA in Writing and Consciousness at New College of California in San Francisco under the tutelage of beat poet Neeli Cherkovski.

Erica Steiner's work is largely inspired by ornamentation, textile design, and folk and religious art from many different times and places. Her work suggests a deep, imaginative inner world and in so doing, provides space for all viewers to embrace the limitlessness of their own psychic interiors. Having focused primarily on painting in oil and gold leaf for much of her career, in recent years, Steiner’s practice has expanded to include a deep engagement with painted and beaded ceramics, extending the language of her painting into another dimension.

Newly relocated to the Pacific Northwest from the Bay Area, she has exhibited her work in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and New York over the past two decades in solo and group exhibitions. Her work has been written about in Juxtapoz, Lost at E-Minor and Citizen LA Magazine among others, and is featured in public and private collections across the country. She currently works out of her home studio on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, along with her husband, artist Aaron Francisco Castro, and their kitty, Little. Her studio is open by appointment.
