Eagle Harbor Books is thrilled to host an evening with Bainbridge Island luminary, and PEN/Faulkner award winning author David Guterson, to present his latest novel The Final Case. David will be joined in conversation with Pushcart Award winning poet John Willson, a Bookseller Emeritus of Eagle Harbor Books, and 2014 Bainbridge Island Treasure. This event will be held in the auditorium at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art at 6 p.m.
Guterson returns to the courtroom in this most compelling and intimate novel to date. An author taking a break from writing finds an opportunity to spend time with his father, an elderly lawyer, assisting him on the final case at the end of an illustrious career. Based on an actual case in the Pacific Northwest, Guterson’s novel becomes a philosophical meditation on aging, empathy, cultural progress, and family obligations.
“Every sentence has a graceful weight and meter and is illumined by a subtle intelligence that makes his descriptions arresting but never showy.” ~ Scott Turow for NY Times, 1/11/22
John Willson is the author of the poetry collection Call This Room a Station, and has been honored by organizations including the Academy of American Poets, the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference, and Artist Trust of Washington.
