"Developmental Editing: Fiction and Nonfiction" Part 2 of "What Is Editing" Series

Presented by OfficeXpats at OfficeXpats

Join us for the second workshop in our editing series. We'll be diving into techniques for developmental editing of either your fiction or nonfiction book projects. This type of editing can happen even before you start writing, at the idea stage. The great thing about "dev editing" is that it continues to shape your book project until it's an engaging narrative with publishing potential. You'll also have a chance to see examples and discuss them with other participants.

Come at 4:30pm to mingle and chat with the instructor, grab a drink or snacks, then grab a seat. We'll start sharply at 5pm to learn about editing.

To purchase a community ticket as a non-member, first click "join" to create a free account.  If you are not a member yet, consider joining with a Passport membership, $35/month. The Passport was designed for those who want to participate in community events and only pay for additional hours or meeting rooms with member discounts as needed. However, our **virtual** writers and authors events are open to non-members.

Next in the series:

Wednesday, March 22: The pre-publication process: getting your work out there

What You’ll Learn: The development of manuscripts, both fiction and nonfiction, including manuscript reviews and manuscript consultations.

About the Instructor:
Matthew Bennett began editing in 2008 at Ronsdale Press, where he shepherded documents from submission to final print and served as editor for publications such as Sheila James’s In the Wake of Loss (2009). He founded Cascadia Editors Collective in 2016 after completing his PhD at the University of British Columbia. His current editing work includes novels, creative nonfiction, short stories, and academic monographs. He is also a writer. Matthew has worked with manuscripts at every stage of production, from initial submission to final publication, providing developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and artistic guidance. He currently teaches editing at University of Washington Continuum College.
