Instructor bio: Julie Read (she/her) began painting at the age of thirty, inspired by the artwork of a rural folk artist in Dorset, VT while on a road trip. She later studied with Max Grover in Port Townsend, Washington. After 4 years of eager practice, she had a solo exhibition at the Max Grover Gallery and has continued to work as a fine artist ever since. The notion that “painters paint what they know," motivates her work and her teaching, as do objects and stories from her middle-class, suburban upbringing within the windswept plains and sun-soaked Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. She embraces content of all flavors, including absurd, bizarre, scary, imbalanced, complicated, meaningless and beautiful. Read lives and works in Port Townsend, WA.
