Great Decisions at the Library: Iran at a Crossroads

Presented by LibraryU at Kitsap Regional Library, Bainbridge Island

Library U's 2023 foreign affairs discussion series, GREAT DECISIONS AT THE LIBRARY, concludes on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at the Bainbridge Public Library with a discusion on current events in Iran.

Iran at a Crossroads. By the fall of 2022, Iran was in a state of turmoil due to widespread protests against government-enforced wearing of the hijab, a failing economy, an ineffective new president, and the looming succession of the country’s leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Abroad, renewal of the Iran nuclear deal seemed doubtful and tensions remain high between Iran, Israel, and Arab states. Many Iranians have lost hope of a better future, and the country seems at a crossroads. How should the United States deal with it?

While enjoying coffee and pastries, participants view a 30-minute Foreign Policy Association film on the topic and then take part in a discussion lead by David Fenner, affiliate faculty member at the Jackson School of International Studies and the U.W. Middle East Center.
