Custom Japanese Stab Bookbinding Workshop

Custom Japanese Stab Bookbinding Workshop

Presented by Bainbridge Island Museum of Art at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art

Design and sew your very own personalized stab bindings! This workshop will guide students through the whole process, starting with examining successful stab binding designs, then moving on to sketching patterns, developing unique templates, and finally, stitching structures. Learning will also involve collaborative conversations and sharing works in progress with the class.

This workshop is for experienced beginners and intermediate binders who are comfortable with sewing a basic four-hole stab binding.
GUEST BIO

Yuka Petz is an artist, designer, craftsperson, and collaborator—all titles that she embraces as part of her practice and simultaneously rejects as insufficient on their own. Yuka is the writer and host of Artists’ Books Unshelved, a video series that features books in the Cynthia Sears Artists’ Book Collection at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. She loves the opportunity to dive deep into artists’ books in the collection and publicly share them with audiences around the world.
