Jeffrey Moose Gallery proudly presents works on paper by artist Anne Greenwell for the months of February and March. A reception for the exhibition will be held on First Friday, February 2nd from 6 to 8 PM. A Facebook livestream tour of the show will run from about 5:20 to 5:40. A second reception will take place on First Friday, March 1st, also 6-8 PM.

I first showed Greenwell’s dazzling compositions back in 2009 when she and her family were living in Richland and her husband was working in a government energy lab.The rollicking kaliedoscopic compositions reminded me of the landscape along the Columbia River, but with a wild twist: inspired by fractals, Sacred Geometry and psychedelic art of the 60’s and 70’s. Originally a textile artist, it's easy to imagine the artist transposing quilt patterns into more fluid two dimensional compositions.

She works primarily on paper with a variety of of media: many types of markers, acrylics, pens and pencils. As as she explains, aspects of her work are driven from studying perspective. Often her grids suggest complex three dimensional spaces.

Though trained and still employed as a nurse, Greenwell has found art to be a compulsion and has woven it around her professional life, participating in group shows in the 80’s and 90’s in NYC, Chicago, Dallas and Austin before having a child in 2000. She has exhibited in Washington State since 2008. She recently told me that she wanted to “…make something big and something little. I want it to feel like it's moving. The world needs more color and light!”
