Sail Into History

Sail Into History

Presented by Bainbridge Island Historical Museum at Bainbridge Island City Dock

Sail Into History in July
This annual fundraiser for your Museum is a festive, informative, cultural and historical event featuring a program and narration, pointing out numerous docks and communities that grew up along the Island’s shore.

You asked. We listened: This year's cruise around Bainbridge Island will take place on the Goodtime 2, an Argosy Cruises ship, on Sunday, July 21. The ship has many features to make your sightseeing voyage around the Island a magical experience.

The ship is fully accessible to passengers, who load from a ramp to the main deck, where a catered lunch by Chef JJ at Wanderlust will be served. Because it's a newer ship, the trip will take 3.5 hours. That's about 30 minutes shorter than previous around-the-Island cruises.

Historical narration will be provided by David B. Williams, on a PA system that can be heard on both the main and the upper decks. Williams is an author, naturalist, and tour guide whose award-winning book, Homewaters: A Human and Natural History of Puget Sound is a deep exploration of the stories of this beautiful waterway. Williams is a Curatorial Associate at the Burke Museum and writes a free weekly newsletter, the Street Smart Naturalist.

On the tour, David will weave together stories of the human and natural history of Bainbridge Island and its surroundings. Beginning with the formation of Puget Sound, he'll explore topics as diverse as names on the land, herring, geoducks, forts, and the Mosquito Fleet, always trying to further our understandings of the connections between people and place.

Witty, graceful, and deeply informed, these stories will present a fascinating and hopeful narrative, one that will introduce newcomers to the astonishing life that inhabits Puget Sound and that will offer longtime residents new insights into and appreciation of the waters they call home.
