Aging Cuban musicians are brought out of retirement by Ry Cooder in Havana.
BIMA's smARTfilms Series: Music on Film presents “Buena Vista Social Club” (1999)
Aging Cuban musicians whose talents had been virtually forgotten following Castro’s takeover of Cuba are brought out of retirement by Ry Cooder, who travelled to Havana in order to bring the musicians together. The sessions resulted in triumphant performances of extraordinary music, and the resurrection of the careers of these musical artists, some who were in their nineties at the time of filming.
