Poetry Memoir Class

Poetry Memoir Class

at Waterfront Park Community Center

Create or enhance a memoir with a collection of poems. By reflecting on significant moments, people, and places—one poem at a time—we can write a unique kind of autobiography.  And because we may write in a non-chronological way, a poetry memoir is a fun and definitely doable project.

Each meeting offers inspiration and practical exercises to send you on your way with two or three poems. Drop in for a day or take the whole course. Write a few poems or write a book!

Thursdays, 12:15-1:45.
Optional time for caring critique until 2:15.
October 3: Cast of Characters, Settings, and Seasons.
October 10: Sensory Portraits. A Certain Slant of Light.
October 17: Ancestors, History, and Recipes.
October 31: The Dream and the Child. A Rush of Memory.
November 14: Why We Wake Early: The Offices of Love.
November 21: Bad to the Bone: The Mythos of the Blues.
December 5: Legacies. Artifacts of Family.
Instructor Amanda Williamsen is a past Poet Laureate of Cupertino, CA, and her poetry has appeared in a number of literary journals.

“We are mosaics—pieces of light, love, history, stars—glued together with magic and music and words.” —Anita Krizzan
