BARNTalks: Building a Backyard Railroad (Free Event)

Presented by Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN)

Join BARN each month for an evening of inspiring ideas!  BARNTalks are bringing the community together for presentations and discussion on topics that highlight the challenges, decisions, failures, and successes in life and craft.

The first speaker will be BARN's Metal Fabrication Studio Lead Peter Moseley, who will share a presentation on 'Building a Backyard Railroad'.

For many young people, trains are magical, and for some that magic never fades. Peter Moseley is one of those people.

Join us as Peter tells his "Train Story". We will learn about how he and his neighbor focused their engineering know-how to turn a boyhood dream into reality in their own backyard over a period of twenty years.

The Flintridge and Portola Valley Railroad they built was made up of about 1800 feet of 7.5” gauge track with working models of Colorado Narrow Gauge locomotives and rolling stock. The scale of the equipment was 2.5”/foot or about 1/5 size so adults and children were able to ride on it.

Capture a little bit of the magic by hearing Peter's tales of how the railroad came to be and his process of making the models.

Please register and bring a guest!
The event is free but we will be welcoming a suggested donation of $5 per person at the door.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Speaker Bio:  Peter Moseley is a retired mechanical engineer with experience in manufacturing, digital signal processing, lasers, and software.  He's been very active as a volunteer in BARN's Metal Fabrication Studio.

If you are interested in being a speaker in the future, please contact BARN Program Manager Jess Henderson at jessh@bainbridgebarn.org.
