POSTPONED: BIWC: Bobbie Morgan - Keening: Cries from the Creatures at Risk of Extinction

Presented by Bainbridge Island Women's Club at Bainbridge Performing Arts

Bobbie Morgan has lived on Bainbridge since 1994.  After working as a speech-language pathologist, she retired in early 2001 to focus on environmental concerns.  She initiated the Natural Landscapes Project to educate Kitsap County residents about the safer alternatives to lawn and garden pesticides and herbicides.  She was co-founder of the Environmental Book Group which has been active for 15 years.  She served on the board of Friends of the Farms for nine years.  She is co-leader of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, working to “build the political will for a livable future” because she is grandmother to three precious grandchildren who inspire her to keep on keeping on!

Bobbie has also dipped her pen into the world of poetry writing.  Today’s presentation is called “Keening: Cries from the Creatures at Risk of Extinction”  The original collection honors one representative species from each of the twenty habitat types of the world, known as biomes.  Today’s presentation highlights ten of these.  Bobbie says:
“Writing about the amazing world around us is compelling.  And when that world faces huge challenges, it drives me to learn the science of climate change, of mass extinctions, of the effects of the human footprint.  But science reports are sometimes cold on a page.  This work is intended to meld art with science in order to create a more powerful message.”
