High school students realize how important work will be in their lives, and how, from a personal agency perspective, work will frame who they are and give them control over what they can do with their lives. Employers recognize that the long-term viability of their businesses depends upon their ability to attract today’s youth into the pursuit of careers essential to the success of their businesses and organizations.

With this in mind, BYS and the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club created the Career Exploration Initiative to connect students and employers for work-based learning experiences that inform career path choices. Our three popular programs take place during the summer school break:

Summer Internship Program: Spend time this summer gaining useful job experience in an area of interest to you! Both paid and unpaid positions. Employers are recruited from across Kitsap County. Applications are due May 1, 2020.
Job Shadow Program: Spend up to a day focused on a specific job and see for yourself what it really entails.
Coffee & Careers Program: Spend up to 90 minutes learning about a field of interest to you from someone who knows firsthand—while enjoying a free cup of coffee or tea at a local coffee shop.
