Mural - Outdoor Sculpture

Phelps Road and Spargur Loop, Bainbridge Island, WA, 98110

Frog Rock lives on Bainbridge Island and can be found hanging on the corner with her best friend, Ladybug. The rock is a glacial erratic. The two stacked granite boulders were painted by a pair of local residents to resemble a frog on June 6, 1971. The stones were reportedly once a single boulder which was dynamited in the 1950s or earlier, in order to remove it from a road right-of-way. After the dynamiting, the rock was known for a time as “Split Rock.”
