The acclaimed sculptor and naturalist Tony Angell was commissioned by anonymous donors to create Bay Otters in 1998. The piece, which welcomes visitors to Bainbridge Public Library’s Haiku Garden, was an instant favorite of both adults and children. Angell, a lifelong naturalist, was a wildlife illustrator before becoming a sculptor. He has been a teacher and has trained hawks and falcons and nursed perhaps 100 injured birds at his home in Seattle and his cottage on Lopez Island.
