A Letter from Gigi Godfrey

Dear Fellow Artists,
I hope this finds you and your loved ones doing well during this historically unique time. As we adapt to the new and sudden changes required in our daily lives, our priorities center on preserving the health and well-being of our homes, families, finances, employment, and communities. While navigating these challenges, it has been so moving to witness our society adapt and come together to help others—locally, nationally and worldwide.

Last year I joined the board of Arts & Humanities Bainbridge (AHB), a local non-profit that works to connect all art and creativity on our island. AHB board members have been searching for a way to share appreciation, connect with community, directly support arts, artists, and educators, and maintain viability as a small, non-profit during this pandemic.

In an attempt to achieve these goals, we are inviting artists to participate in an online auction where local art will be showcased and purchased to be delivered to someone as a way of showing support, love, gratitude, and kindness. “Appreciation through Art” will have dedicated space for personal sentiments and stories—a special opportunity to send a memorable, healing gift of art to a healthcare worker, small business owner, food delivery person, mail carrier, teacher, parent, child, neighbor,…the list is endless. Artists and their donated work will be promoted, and have of the proceeds will benefit AHB’s continued work and the other half will aid the work of Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS) whose mission is “to promote the social and emotional well-being of youth through a variety of programs, including free, professional counseling for youth ages 13-21.”

Arts & Humanities Bainbridge is dedicated to three important community pillars: Currents Online, Public Art, and Arts in Education. Currents Online is a cultural platform that shares a wealth of information pertaining to local art events, activities, and educational opportunities. Local artists are welcome to register in the free directory. (www.currentsonline.org). The Public Art Program, a 30 year-old collaboration with the City of Bainbridge Island, selects artwork to be displayed and enjoyed in communal locations. Arts in Education is an amazing multi layered resource that ensures arts in our schools taught by local artists. See the impressive resource page (www.currentsonline.org/artsed/) for schools and families to use
currently while learning from home.

It would be an honor to have you be a part of this auction in support of AHB and our mission to foster the arts. If you have any questions, please contact admin@ahbainbridge.org.
