Joseph and I are never bored, although that might be something to be envied. We had planned on using the pandemic ‘stay-at-home’ time to work on our back burner projects. Our seemingly never-ending ‘want-to-do’ list, but ‘have-no-time-to-do’ list. What we didn’t plan on, was the short, unnerving, two word sentence “Something’s wrong.”

We had heard that Matt Longmire from Bainbridge Performing Arts was producing an anthology of ‘life & times during the quarantine’ and boy did we have a story to tell. Actors Pete Benson & his wife Sabrina Fiander brought our personal tales ‘Second Chance’ & ‘The Widow Maker’ to life with such sincerity, it was like carving deep into a fresh onion. And, they did it live!

Watch this story of two sides of a terrifying moment from Joseph & Alisa Steck, performed by Pete Benson and his wife Sabrina Fiander.

This is an edited version from the Covid Monologues series, representing the life and times of quarantine on Bainbridge Island, WA. The series was produced by Matt Longmire from Bainbridge Performing Arts.

Curiosity & creativity drives us. We share a passion for beautiful design, photography and each other.

Joseph is currently working on his second font, a labor of love in more than one way.

His first font ‘Klei’ derived from hand drawing ‘Alisa’ for a Valentine’s card. Born from this simple type treatment, on this simple card, came hundreds more glyphs & diacritics to make up this marvelous type face. There’s still a lot of work to be done on Klei since there are still no completed Greek or Cyrillic characters. We really want to make more weights available and refine the cases even further. It’s meant to eventually become a very utilitarian, easy to read, expert book font for everyone to use, share, and create with.

Alisa’s focus has been on zen-like imagery to soothe the soul. Fog is a motivator to wake up early & catch the quiet magic before the craziness of the day takes over. There is a project in the works though, that will disrupt the calm. Work that combines sci-fi, nature and what the future may hold & who might be witness (hint, hint).

Joseph & Alisa Steck are partners in Rocketroom, a Bainbridge Island based Graphic Design studio, focusing on Branding, 3D and UX/UI Design.
