We are currently experiencing an extremely unique time in our world and for the arts. Like most people, the pandemic has greatly affected my life and how I live it. But I am lucky enough to have the space, resources, and support system to continue my dancing and education through it all.
I grew up on Bainbridge Island and attended the school district here. I also studied for 15 years at Bainbridge Dance Center (BDC) where my love for dance bloomed. Aside from technique, I also learned many valuable life lessons from BDC and owe so much to the dance center and BDC family. I now attend the University of San Francisco as a Performing Arts and Social Justice Major: Dance Concentration, and a Journalism Minor.
This video provides a small look into one way that I dance and create, and I am hoping it brings joy and inspiration to anyone who needs it.
I am also hoping to provide representation for Black and brown people and dancers on our predominantly white island.
Let’s all stay safe and do better,
Mary Jane
