We’ve read the headlines and seen the images: ‘South Africa is burning!’ ‘Free Nelson Mandela!’ But what about those who lived through those experiences. Was life pure terror, bittersweet or hopeful? How did apartheid influence people’s hearts and minds? Did the country’s arc bend toward justice?

These questions are addressed by Inez Maubane Jones at the Rotary Bainbridge Island meeting of May 10, 2021. She walked through that period in history. She offers us an ‘insiders look’ – a view that is particularly relevant during our country’s struggle with racial justice.
