The Public Art Committee (PAC), managed by Arts & Humanities Bainbridge (AHB), and the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI), are pleased to announce the winner of the People’s Choice Award for its outdoor sculpture exhibition, Something New III.

The project, now in its third year, brings three bold new public art pieces to Bainbridge Island’s downtown corridor and City Hall. Close to 400 community members voted in this year’s competition and of the three sculptures, Fossil II by Lin McJunkin and Milo White received the most votes. The talented artist team of McJunkin and White also created the dazzling Iris Flare sculpture in 2018, landing the very first People’s Choice Award of the Something New rotating art project.

The Something New program provides both a dynamic public art experience and an ongoing opportunity for sculptors from around the Pacific Northwest to exhibit their work. The project brings a collection of sculptures to three outdoor sites around Winslow for a yearlong exhibition. New pieces are selected and rotated into these permanent locations annually, bringing “something new” to Bainbridge Island each year.

McJunkin and White will receive a $1000 check, plus a formal letter of accolade from the City of Bainbridge Island on Thursday, June 17 at 3:30 PM. The award ceremony is open to the public and will take place in front of the Town & Country Market on Winslow Way E., where the vibrant glass and metal hexagon shaped sculpture is located.
