This weekend is the Bainbridge Island 21st annual Summer Studio Tour! Explore all medium of arts on August 13, 14, & 15th. Fri & Sat 10 – 6 | Sun 10 – 5.

My creations are a combination of whimsy, steam punk, and eccentric, and no two are ever alike. I use old tools, railroad spikes, used auto parts, pots and pans, old farm equipment, silverware, rebar, and horseshoes.

The majority of my paintings are representational; landscapes, seascapes, flowers etc. Most of my landscapes are done in Plein Air, meaning; painting on location in natural light. My florals may be done on location in Plein Air or in my studio from life. This holds true for my acrylics, inks and prints. I rarely use photos to paint from. Sometimes I will use a photo for inspiration. My popular flower card line is made from my own crazy inspired imagination. I always prefer to sell original artwork.

Raw metal transforms as I bring out the simple beauty and inherent strength of the metal through my outdoor garden and patio sculptures. The detailed journey from rustic, crude material, involves many steps like cleaning, grinding, burning, cutting, and polishing. Tools like a plasma cutter and chemicals like muriatic acid are just part of my world. The final design is always in mind, but may not come into play for days or even weeks into the process.
ALISA STECK is the Communications Manager for Arts & Humanities Bainbridge. On top of grant writing and other duties, she is currently helping to lead the efforts of creating a Certified Creative District for Bainbridge Island. Also a photographer, her focus is on capturing the beautiful waterways of the Puget Sound region, vineyards and small farms.
