My worries seem so very small
With my waterfall – Jimi Hendrix “May This Be Love”

2020 was an intense year. More than intense, it was pretty much a global s*** show. The pandemic, social injustices, political chasms… I needed an escape. But it had to be an escape somewhere nearby. Flying wasn’t in the cards, and wouldn’t be for some time.

My soul needed water. I set out to find a hike that included moving water of some sort. I craved the sound of a babbling brook, or a raging river – something, anything, to soften the edges of my frayed nerves.

Marymere Falls, Lake Crescent

Whoa. I didn’t expect to find this stunningly beautiful waterfall, a mere 45 minutes away
in the tiny town of Port Ludlow. And, I didn’t expect that after finding this first waterfall, that finding waterfalls would become more than just a hobby. It would become an obsession.

Madison Creek Falls, Olympic National Park

A curious dog walked into the frame when I was photographing the beautiful Rocky Brook Falls. I love shooting long exposures, as it captures the magical feeling of being in such a beautiful location. The presence of the dog adds an almost surreal quality to the image.

I’m looking forward to the rainy season. Waiting impatiently for cloudbursts to fill the hungry streams into the eventual cascade over cliffs. Waiting for the roar to bring quiet to my soul.
