Poetry Corners, a well-known and long-running local poetry movement, made its final debut this weekend in a wall-to-wall packed event. Poetry Corners’ eagerly awaited-for live reading has come, and gone.

The live reading event occurred in the Main Room of Bainbridge Island Library on May 1.

Although roughly 35 poets were featured in Winslow windows and published in the Poetry Corners chapbook, over 80 supporters attended the event.

Poetry Corners has flourished as a local poetry movement for many years.  The initial launch of the program was on April 1, 1999. Poems by 21 Bainbridge poets were mounted on posters and displayed in Winslow business windows.

The original intent: to expose Islanders to poetry on a daily basis by featuring poems in public.

Now, Poetry Corners features poetry for one month, in April, to celebrate National Poetry Month.

Although they will be back next year to celebrate National Poetry Month in their usual fashion, Poetry Corners will continue to feature all of the poetry on their website: bainbridgeislandpoetry.com
