The multiverse; philosophical notion or scientific hypothesis? The psychotropic concept of shifting between parallel realities is at the core of Ingress, an independent film written, directed, and produced by Bainbridge Island resident, Rachel Noll James.

Ingress was shot entirely on Bainbridge Island. The film gently drapes an atmospheric overlay of mysticism and co-existent realities onto the solid reliability of familiar locales. Rachel plays the film’s protagonist, Riley Carol – a woman whose involuntary shifting between parallel worlds has brought her to the brink.

Actor, Christopher Clark plays opposite Rachel in the role of Daniel Cassanders, a successful channeler haunted by insecurities surrounding his psychic abilities. The two meet and alternately find (and lose) each other in synapses between realities.

Rachel has always been interested in new ways to view reality and the human experience. As a filmmaker, she loves providing a context that takes people outside the details of day-to-day norms and leads us to a broader perspective on what it means to be alive on this planet. As part of the research for Ingress, she drew upon conversations held over the course of many years with a family friend who was a channeler in Santa Fe, N.M. where Rachel grew up. The film delivers a deeply emotional story that challenges the notion of a single, stable corporeality and lives in the “maybe” of co-existent worlds.

There are two opportunities to see Ingress this month during the Bainbridge Island Film Festival. The festival is an annual 4-day celebration of contemporary films and filmmakers across multiple venues on Bainbridge Island, including The Historic Lynwood Theatre, BIMA and Bainbridge Cinemas.
