My wife, Most Beautiful One, and I loved going to Pegasus Coffee Shop when it was owned by Hazel and Genevieve. We also enjoyed it when Jocelyn and Jeff ran it. Now, to our great satisfaction, I’m happy to report that executive chef and owner Kell Killian has created the kind of place where “everybody knows your name.”

Pegasus, the flying horse of the muses, is a symbol of high-flying imagination—an apt name for a place to have coffee or lunch while listening to live music. (Musicians play live in the afternoon and evening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and during some weekday afternoons.) We recently saw our longtime Edmunds-based friend, Steven Cristol, play guitar and sing many familiar and some not so familiar tunes. Pegasus also features an Artist of the Month. Thought-provoking artist Travis Brassfield is creating a new piece every Friday at Pegasus in November.

I should also probably mention they bake their own delicious pastries. And Kell’s recipe for a plate-sized pancake is worthy of a song!

Speaking of songs, our band, Good Karma Blues, played at the coffeehouse during the First Friday Art Walk a few weeks ago. While the space was a little squished for the four of us (no room for our drummer), the PA system was easy to use, and the venue accommodated a surprising number of our friends and Pegasus diners.

Buddhist author and philosopher Daisaku Ikeda stated, “Music speaks directly to the heart. This response, this echo within the heart, is proof that human hearts can transcend the barriers of time and space and nationality. Exchanges in the field of culture can play an important role in enabling people to overcome mistrust and prejudice and build peace.”

It was fascinating to watch people who had never met quickly form a bond through their shared experience of listening, and in some cases dancing, to our music. Like Bainbridge Currents, Pegasus is doing a good job of connecting culture and arts with the community.
