Each month we bring you a list of five things to do curated by a local artist. To get ready for February, Currents invited producer and director Steve Stolee to share what’s on his radar for the coming month. Here are Steve’s picks.

1. February 1 and 29 MET OPERA LIVE IN HD at Bainbridge Cinemas

The Metropolitan Opera will be live on screen in HD performing Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin on February 1 and Agrippina by Handel on February 29. Showtime is 9:55 a.m at Bainbridge Cinemas.


2. February 4 “The Other Side of Everything” at BIMA

“The Other Side of Everything” is part of the “I Never Saw It Coming” five-week smARTfilms series at BIMA curated by tj Faddis. This intimate documentary by Milia Turajlic about Serbia reveals a house and a country haunted by history. Showings are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. 


3. February 8-9 “WOMEN OF POWER!” at Bainbridge Performing Arts

Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and Music Director & Conductor Mario Alejandro Torres present a unique concert filled with great and powerful works composed exclusively by women composers.


4. February 15-16 “HEROES” presented by Island Theatre

Island Theatre presents “Heroes,” the award-winning comedy by Gerald Sibleyras, adapted by Tom Stoppard, directed by Paul Bryan and featuring Nelson Spickard, Brian Danzig and George Shannon. FREE at the Bainbridge Public Library at 7:30 p.m. (donations welcome).


5. Through February 23 “FACE FIRST” at BIMA

Area artists exhibit portraiture focused especially on the human face — painting, photography, sculpture, glass, artist’s books and mixed media.
