1. First Friday Art Walk: March 6 – Downtown Winslow from 6-8pm

As an artist and art lover, I always enjoy the First Friday Artwalk on Bainbridge Island.  A vast array of venues participate and open their doors—all of the art galleries, the library, the Winslow Art Center, BPA, real estate offices, clothing and home décor stores such as Danger, the list goes on.  The town is vibrant with live music, wine, and refreshments.  I usually go with a group of friends and we try to stop by as many places as we can.  This is a great time to see current work by established artists, as well as new art created by a variety of emerging passionate and talented people. The businesses downtown are so generous to host many of us new artists and provide the opportunity to share our work and boost our confidence.  It’s always a fun night out—I hope to see you there.

2.     BIMA Fiber 2020 Exhibition: March 6 – June 7

Anna Teiche Couple I 2018

BIMA has a new exhibition opening this month—Fiber 2020.  Talented AHB Individual Artist Grant winner Anna Teiche will be presenting her first solo art museum show from March 14-June 7. Anna is a painter and fiber artist focused on compelling textile patterns and bright motifs. As a docent at BIMA, I tend to see all the exhibits several times. I highly recommend attending artist talks and gallery walks—they are very educational, inspirational, and reveal wonderful insights into the minds of the artists.  We are truly fortunate to have this free museum in our community. Congratulations to Anna, I can’t wait to see the show!

3.     Bainbridge Prepares: Bainbridge Island – We’re on It Together

Bainbridge Prepares is a collaboration within our community to ensure that we are all informed and ready in the case of any emergency situation, such as an earthquake.  I am personally involved in maintaining the network of communication within my own neighborhood.  I attend regular city meetings to stay current with any Preparedness information that might be vital in thriving during any type of disaster.  I believe that the more we know, the less anxious we will be, and thus more capable of helping each other.

4.     Teen night at BARN

On the second Friday of each month, high school students, grades 9-12, are invited to BARN for free pizza, fun and hands on activities. My kids are no longer in high school, but I know they would enjoy this if they were—a great chance to meet new people and do something creative.  How wonderful that BARN is offering this to our community.

5.     The Edge Improv: First Saturdays at BPA from 7:30 pm

They say laughter is the best medicine.  Scientific evidence shows that a good laugh enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.  It activates and relieves your stress response, soothes tension, improves your immune system, relieves pain, and improves your mood. The Edge Improv performs every first Saturday of the month at BPA.  I’ve gone a few times. These actors are FUNNY! I can’t believe it is not scripted. If you haven’t gone yet, I highly recommend it. Your doctor will approve.
