The Bainbridge Youth Choir (BYC) is proud to offer choir classes to all youth ages 4 through high school. Formerly the Olympic Girls’ Choir, Founding Artistic Director Laura Milleson, was succeeded by Angie Godfrey in the Fall of 2018. BYC offers choral instruction to four different age groups: early singers, Encora, Cantabile, and Chamber Choir, serving children from Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap area.
Bainbridge Youth Choir is under the umbrella of the Bainbridge Chorale and is supported in rehearsal and performances by its collaborative pianist, Laetitia Lehman-Pearsall. BYC continued classes using Zoom since April of 2020 and was finally able to meet in-person this past May! Currently, summer camps are planned and regular classes will begin in September. “Bhombela” is a traditional South African song arranged by Will Skaff. Sung in the Zulu language, it is a song of a mother waking up her children on the train used to transport workers. The song is lively, fun and the rhythm sticks were a challenge that was a delight to the choir and audience alike. In this video performance you will see students from our three oldest groups (Encora, Cantabile and Chamber).
