Now in its second year, Something New, our rotating Public Art Initiative, will reveal this year’s installations at the Island’s First Friday Art Walk on Friday, August 2nd.
Something
New aims to provide both a dynamic
public art experience and an ongoing opportunity for sculptors from around
the Pacific Northwest to exhibit their work. The project brings a
collection of sculptures to two outdoor sites around Winslow for a yearlong
exhibition. New pieces are selected and rotated into these permanent locations
annually, bringing “something new” to Bainbridge Island year after year.
A jury of PAC-nominated community members selected
the chosen pieces in this project from a sizeable pool of submissions. Around thirty
sculptors from around the Pacific Northwest submitted their work for
consideration.
Something
New will have its official unveiling at
6pm on Friday, August 2, coinciding with the month’s First Friday Art Walk. PAC
members and volunteers will guide community members on a walking tour of the
new pieces. Sculptors will be on hand at each site to present their artwork.
Motorized transportation will be available for those not inclined to walk the
tour route. The tour will start from a station on Winslow Way between Columbia
Bank and Chase Bank.
