“These pandemic times
demand social distance:
stay way clear of others,
avoid every close instance.
No shaking of hands,
lay off kissing-plus-hug,
nix all bodily contact
to evade virus bug.
A new-fangled exception
for an intimate hello,
is to sincerely, if awkwardly,
bump your dear friend’s elbow.
I know it’s a deterrent
to getting the virus so feared,
yet to me elbow-bumping
seems totally weird.
The greeting I’ll use,
my flu-freeness to save,
is to smile, say “hello,”
and just hygienically wave!”
