The African American Choral Ensemble – or ACE as it is fondly known – was founded by Seattle’s renowned Northwest African American Museum as a response to the racial reckoning of 2020/21. In addition to their unusual museum affiliation, ACE is no ordinary choir. From their a cappella rendition of “O-o-h Child” by the Chicago soul band, the Five Stairsteps to their powerful message of resilience, hope, and love, ACE Choir promises to be an evening that helps us all find a way forward.
The brainchild of NAAM Executive Director LaNesha DeBardelaben, and led by musical director Jason Turner, ACE brings together vocal talent from various Seattle area church groups to form one powerful and inspiring musical force. These thirteen ambassadors of hope are proud to represent NAAM and create community through the music and the message. In their words, ACE wants to uplift the Black community, the region, and the country with “hope, help, and healing for our time.”
