Island Theatre presents a staged reading of “2 ACROSS: A Comedy of Crosswords and Romance” by Jerry Mayer at the Bainbridge Public Library on Saturday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 21 at 3:00 p.m. Admission by $5 minimum donation.
A man and woman board a San Francisco BART train at 4:30 a.m. They're alone in the car and both are doing the New York Times crossword. She's an organized, sensible psychologist. He's a free-spirited, unemployed ad exec. She’s a crossword pro, he always quits. She wants to be left alone. He can’t stop talking. Opposites in an enclosed space, they argue and flirt, attacking each other's values while gradually opening to the other’s point of view. Their trip is filled with surprises—for them and for the audience—and as the ride ends, it's obvious that each of them has been changed.
"2 ACROSS" was written by Jerry Mayer, writer and producer of numerous TV sitcoms, including “The Facts of Life,” “Bewitched,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “Bridget Loves Bernie.” It ran off-Broadway at St. Luke’s Theater in 2015 followed by numerous runs in regional playhouses across the country.
The Island Theatre production is directed by Karen Hauser and features Autumn McMurray ... view more »
