Poulsbohemian poetry reading

This Saturday, March 7th, is the next installment in the long-running, cherished, and always entertaining Poulsbohemian readings. This month’s featured readers are Anne Laird, Diane Walker, and Kurt Beattie. You can find their bios below. As usual the fun starts at 7:00 PM and an open mic will follow the featured readers.

Anne Laird, an Oregonian by birth, moved to Washington in 1974, and to Cohousing on Bainbridge in 2004.  She has traveled to Iran, parts of Europe, Southeast Asia, and Japan.  She parented three wonderful children. In Cohousing, where young children and teenagers roam, someone recently referred to her as “Grandma”.  Shocked, then delighted, she now plans to teach tree-climbing safety, digging and planting, and trellis-building this spring and summer. She is grateful to Poulsbohemian and its genial audience for the privilege of reading her poems out loud.

Diane Walker
Exposed to Shakespeare at a ridiculously early age, Diane Walker was scarred for life, and now spends her days in a variety of creative pursuits designed to exorcise the demonic, insistent pounding of iambic pentameter from her all-too-impressionable soul.

Kurt Beattie

Is the Artistic Director Emeritus of ACT Theatre, where he was Artistic Director for 12 years before stepping down in 2016. While there he produced and directed David Wagoner’s play about Theodore Roethke, FIRST CLASS. He has also served as Artistic Director of the Empty Space Theatre, and Associate Artistic Director of the Seattle Rep. He has been working professionally in theatre in Seattle and around the country as a director, actor, playwright, and literary manager for over 45 years. And will be directing Ben Jonson’s VOLPONE for Seattle Shakespeare Company this coming fall.
He has always, however, had a deep interest in poetry. He studied writing with David Wagoner, Richard Hugo, and John Berryman when he was a student at the University of Washington, and has published in Poetry Northwest, Southern Poetry Review, and Woodworks.
