Winter Skills of a Naturalist Series

If you’ve fallen in love with Washington State’s lowlands and have been looking to learn more, then this series is for you!

Are you a longtime Northwesterner, new resident, or somewhere in between? If you’ve fallen in love with Washington State’s lowlands and have been looking to learn more, then this is the class for you! Each week we’ll explore IslandWood’s trail systems, leaving no stone unturned. We’ll put the stones back, though, because that’s the right thing to do!

Join our staff naturalist, Christina Woolf, to deepen your observations of the natural world and build your skills in botany, wildlife tracking, zoology, birding, marine ecology, and reading the forested landscape. Each week we’ll let the phenology of the forest guide us, as we tune in to seasonal changes. During each class we’ll practice using the tools of a naturalist, including hand-lenses, field guides, dichotomous keys, and microscopes.

Feel free to register for just one lesson, or sign up for all three!
