This chisel making class serves as an introduction to basic blacksmithing. Use a forge to heat pieces of steel red hot and hammer them into the shape of a chisel. Repeat, again and again, temper and quench.

The class covers:

Safety and good practice
Discussion of “smithing”: forging, drawing, heat-treating, and finishing
Introduction to the propane forge and hand tools
Shaping and drawing a blank
Heat treating
Grinding
Finishing

Class open to youth ages 12-17, with an accompanying adult required for ages 12-14.

This is an off-site class, taking place at Alchemy Industrial Arts, 9392 Wardwell Ave NE, Bainbridge Island
