Scott Allen creates oil paintings that explore the infinite textures, colors and compositions of the landscape he encounters and imagines. Raised in Central Washington, much of his work recalls the open, arid and dramatic vistas of his early years. Since moving to Bainbridge Island in 1984, Scott also creates landscape paintings that evoke the watery atmosphere of the Salish Sea and its lush surroundings.

In 1998, Scott had his first public exhibition at the Harbour Pub on Bainbridge Island. Since then, he has been in numerous group and solo shows at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, which has supported his work for over twenty years. His paintings have been exhibited at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, the Seattle Art Museum Gallery in Seattle, the Robert Graves Gallery in Wenatchee, as well as other venues across Washington State.

Scott’s work is marked by strong compositions, soft gradations of color and value, and the diverse expression of light. Often, the contrasting elements between the natural and the human-made world are explored. His work ranges from realistic representations of the landscape to more abstract canvases that explore space, light and symbolism.
